Every parent knows that it's important to protect the sensitive skin of your children from the sun rays. But do you also know that it's important to protect your children's eyes?
Children's eyes are extra vulnerable to UV rays because their pupils are larger & their eye lenses contain less protective pigment. Therefore, it is recommended that you make your children wear sunglasses from an early age.
Here are some tips on choosing the right sunglasses:
1️⃣ Make sure the sunglasses offer 100% UV protection. Check the sticker or description of the sunglasses whether they have 100% UV or UV400.
2️⃣ Make sure the glasses are large enough & the frame fits your child's face well. The less UV light that can penetrate through the sides, the better.
3️⃣ It is recommended to choose sunglasses that absorb at least 75% of the light. Therefore, choose sunglasses with a CE marking of 3 or 4. The CE-marking indicates how much the sunglasses protect the eyes from glare. Protection 0 means that the sunglasses will absorb up to 20% of the light. Protection 4 means that the sunglasses will absorb up to 97% of the light.
4️⃣ Children are playful, so choose unbreakable polycarbonate as a material for the lenses to be safe. Better be safe than sorry!
