What do you take in your maternity suitcase?

What do you take in your maternity suitcase?

What a stress, packing your suitcase! But, first and foremost, RELAX! Forget something? Don't worry, your partner and your family can come to visit every day and will be happy to bring extra items for you. Make sure you have everything you need to make it as comfortable as possible for you during the delivery. But remember, the hospital is equipped so that you only have to ask and they will undoubtedly have what you need. Below you will find a checklist of things you will need:

  • Identity card
  • Hospitalization card
  • Pregnancy booklet
  • Marriage certificate or certification of recognition

For mom

  • Super comfortable clothing for during delivery. It is best to put these on top of your suitcase or even in a separate bag
  • For each day a fresh sleeping gown or pajamas
  • Bathrobe
  • Slippers
  • Fresh underwear. Be sure to bring a few extra pieces
  • (breastfeeding) bra
  • Comfortable clothing for the day. I always opted for leggings with a long shirt
  • Clothes to go home. Keep in mind that your tummy probably won't have completely disappeared yet
  • Washcloths and towels. The hospital is not a hotel ;-), so you have to take care of this yourself. A towel for the guests is also useful
  • Smartphone & charger
  • Toiletry bag with toothbrush, toothpaste, brush or comb, hair tie, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, facial care, make-up, ...
  • Hair dryer
  • Sanitary towels are usually provided by the hospital

For the baby

  • At least 1 bodysuit for every day. The hardest question is: what size?!! Even on the last ultrasounds, it is difficult to say whether you will have a big baby or not. Based on the tips I received, I had not bought a size 0 for my daughter and the little girl really swam in all her clothes :-). I would recommend buying especially 0-3m and if the baby is a really small newborn, send your partner to size 0
  • At least 1 one-piece for each day
  • Hat
  • No-scratch Mitts
  • Baby bib
  • Comforter or cuddly toy
  • Your Oh, Baby! baby care products ;-)
  • Muslin cloths
  • Clothes to go home: can be just a nice romper with a sweater or a jacket
  • Blanket
  • Maxi Cosi and accessories. Your partner can also bring this when he comes to pick you up
  • Just in case: a pacifier

For the guests

Something to toast :-), it is finally party time (!!): cava, champagne, something fresh. You receive bottles of water in the hospital
